Proposals from three UArizona Health Sciences colleges, the College of Medicine – Tucson, the College of Nursing, and the Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health, are among the programs that received funding for the Spring 2021 Provost's Investment Fund (PIF) competitive round.
The Provost's Office received 98 proposals to promote growth and opportunities to generate new revenues to the institution, increase students’ success, graduation and retention, especially for underrepresented groups, and promote diversity and inclusion. Proposals were evaluated by three advisory committees consisting of diverse students, faculty and staff.
Congratulations to these UArizona Health Sciences recipients and their programs/research:
- Steve Machtley from the UArizona College of Nursing has been awarded $184,000 for his proposal, "Enhancing Arizona Nursing Inclusive Excellence (E-ANIE)."
- Michael Johnson, PhD, from the College of Medicine - Tucson has been awarded $128,000 for his proposal, "National Summer Undergraduate Research Project (NSURP), a Platform for Engaging Underrepresented Minorities in STEM."
- Stephanie Carroll, DrPH, MPH, from the Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health has been awarded $90,000 for her proposal, "Stewardship of Indigenous Peoples' Data at the University of Arizona."
Additional funding was provided from the Federal CARES Act allocation set-aside for Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI) for Student/Employee Programs, including $199,154 to Teshia Solomon, PhD, from the College of Medicine - Tucson for her student/employee program, "Peer Support Specialist Training for Native Americans: A New Approach to Expand Behavioral Health Services in Arizona's Native American Communities."
All selected proposals are approved for funding for one or two years, based on the recommendations of the committees and their alignment with our institutional strategic priorities.
