As of Feb. 1, 2021, Gustavo Perez, PhD, assistant professor of psychiatry, has been appointed Early Psychosis Intervention Center (EPICenter) program lead.
Dr. Perez has been with the EPICenter since 2017, and, as the EPICenter program lead, he will serve as the main contact for questions, inquires and referrals. In addition to being a talented bilingual psychotherapist, he is a strong advocate for patients and their families and is committed to best practices of care coordination. Dr. Perez obtained his undergraduate degree in psychology and special education at the University of Texas at El Paso. Subsequently, he completed his doctorate degree at the University of Texas at Austin and his clinical psychology internship at the University of New Mexico College of Medicine in Albuquerque, N.M. Prior to joining the Department, Dr. Perez served as the senior psychologist at the Pima County Juvenile Detention Center where he was recognized with the 2016 "Employee of the Year Award".
Patricia Harrison-Monroe, PhD, former EPICenter director and co-founder of the Whole Health Clinic, has transitioned to part time status, and as of Feb. 1, 2021, has agreed to serve as the vice chair for diversity, equity and inclusion in the Department of Psychiatry. She will also continue to provide psychotherapy services to the students in the College of Medicine – Tucson.
In other Whole Health Clinic news, Department Chair and Professor Jordan F. Karp, MD, will take the helm as medical director starting March 1.
