Biosciences Toastmasters Will Meet on Fridays This Fall

Speak Your Science at Biosciences Toastmasters

Biosciences Toastmasters will be meeting on Fridays at noon during the Fall 2021 semester, starting on Aug. 27.

We are a group of scientists, science lovers, students and community members who work to improve our communication skills as scientists and professionals, whether we are polishing up our public speaking abilities or improving interpersonal communication. We offer a friendly and supportive atmosphere, and look forward to seeing many new and returning faces!

Members and guests will enjoy prepared speeches on health, science and other topics; as well as Table Topics™, impromptu speeches in which members and willing guests are randomly selected to respond to prompts with extemporaneous comments that last one to two minutes.

For more information and a Zoom link, email Susan Miller at sjmiller@email.arizona.edu.

About Biosciences Toastmasters

Since 2009, Biosciences Toastmasters has provided students, scientists and other members of the campus community a supportive environment to develop public speaking and leadership skills. Members prepare and present speeches, receive constructive feedback from members and have opportunities to serve other roles to keep meetings running smoothly. Members have successfully defended dissertations, placed in Grad Slam contests, polished conference presentations and received job promotions, in part due to the support and self-paced training they have received from this club.

In March 2020, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the club moved its meetings to Zoom, continuing to support members wishing to improve their speaking skills and build their confidence in the online spaces we now inhabit. Members look forward to returning to in-person or hybrid meetings on the University of Arizona Health Sciences campus once it is safe to do so. Until then, we look forward to meeting guests and prospective members on Zoom!
