Outcome objectives
- Recognize the epidemiology, modes of transmission, and clinical presentations of Burkholderia infections, including their relevance in emergency and prehospital care.
- Differentiate Burkholderia from other common pathogens by identifying key diagnostic features, risk factors, and patient populations most at risk for severe disease.
- Apply strategies for initial recognition, infection control, and management of suspected Burkholderia cases in the EMS and emergency department settings, including when to escalate care.
