Event Description
Abby Abelson, MD, FACR, will be presenting a Gall Endowed Lecture on Friday, May 22. Dr. Abelson is the chair of the Department of Rheumatology at the Cleveland Clinic, the Rheumatology Program director, the chair of workforce and training at the American College of Rheumatology and the course director of the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine. The title of the presentation is "Educating for Rheumatology Advocacy 2026.”
Learning Objectives: Participants should be able to:
- Define and understand the impact of rheumatology advocacy.
- Understand federal legislative processes and opportunities for involvement by rheumatology health care professionals and patients.
- Understand the impact of legislation on access to patient care and treatment, research, rheumatology practice and the workforce.

Presenter Details
Abby Abelson, MD, FACR
Dr. Abby Abelson has been the chair of the Department of Rheumatic and Immunologic Diseases at the Cleveland Clinic since 2011. She completed her rheumatology fellowship at the University Hospitals of Cleveland. She served as president of the Rheumatology Research Foundation from 2017 to 2019 and has been on the American College of Rheumatology Board of Directors, chair of the Committee of Training and Workforce and co-chair of the Governance Task Force. She was awarded the Kaiser-Permanente Award for Excellence in Teaching by the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in 2010. She served as the fellowship program director at the Cleveland Clinic from 2011 to 2021.
