Event Description

Daniel Butler, MD, will be presenting at Rheumatology Grand Rounds on Friday, Jan. 16. Dr. Butler is an associate professor of dermatology, the director of the Inflammatory & Aging Skin Research Program in the Division of Dermatology at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson. The title of the presentation is "Why so itchy: Understanding and approaching itch in a rheum-derm patient”.

Learning Objectives:

 Participants should be able to:

  1. Describe the neuro-immune mechanisms by which aging and systemic inflammatory diseases contribute to chronic pruritus in older adults.
  2. Differentiate inflammatory, neuropathic, systemic and medication-related causes of itch in patients with rheumatologic disease, using a practical diagnostic framework.
  3. Apply evidence-based, steroid-sparing strategies to manage chronic itch in older adults with rheumatologic conditions, emphasizing interdisciplinary care with dermatology.
