College of Medicine – Tucson's Chinyere joins national cardiology board

Ike Royal Chinyere, MD, PhD, a fellow in cardiovascular disease at Banner – University Medical Center Tucson and the College of Medicine – Tucson’s Sarver Heart Center, has been inducted into the board of directors for the Association of Black Cardiologists.
Chinyere said that during his two-year term, which started in March, he will advocate for cardiovascular trainees nationally and across the world.
“My hope is that everyone — Black or any other race/ethnicity/religion/creed — utilize their training and expertise to serve in organizations that are committed to bringing the knowledge and resources to those who need it most,” said Chinyere, who graduated from the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson in 2023.
Chinyere said it was “surreal” to be invited to serve on the board. He is the first Tucson representative to join the association’s board of directors.
“I intend to represent Tucson well,” he said.
Founded in 1974, the nonprofit group has an international membership of more than 2,000, which includes health care professionals as well as community members and others. The organization is dedicated to eliminating disparities related to cardiovascular disease in all people of color and improve health in communities across the country.
