College of Medicine – Tucson’s Savir-Baruch receives service award

Bital Savir-Baruch, MD, FACNM, a professor of radiology and imaging sciences at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson, received the Steven M. Pinsky Distinguished Service Award/Gold Medal.

The honor was presented at the Central Chapter of the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging’s annual meeting in March. 

Savir-Baruch, director of both the College of Medicine – Tucson nuclear radiology fellowship and its nuclear medicine residency that launches in July, called the award “a tremendous honor.”

“Dr. Pinsky’s legacy reflects the kind of impact many of us aspire to in nuclear medicine — building programs, mentoring the next generation and expanding access to advanced diagnostic and therapeutic care,” said Savir-Baruch, who is also a member of the U of A Comprehensive Cancer Center and joined the U of A in 2021. “To be associated with Dr. Pinsky’s legacy is both humbling and motivating, and it reinforces my commitment to continue advancing the field for the benefit of patients and the broader medical community.”

The award is named for the late Pinsky, a nuclear medicine physician who was devoted to education in the fields of radiology and nuclear medicine. Created in 2005, the award recognizes chapter members who have contributed to the betterment of nuclear medicine and the society.
