Hina Arif receives Auslander vision award
Hina Arif, MD, FSAR
Hina Arif, MD, FSAR, assistant dean for faculty affairs at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson, received the 2025 Edith Sayre Auslander Established Visionary Award.
The award was presented by the University of Arizona’s Commission on the Status of Women, which was founded by Auslander, a U of A alum and faculty member who also served on the Arizona Board of Regents. The commission, an advocacy arm of the U of A, champions an inclusive campus.
Arif said she was honored to receive the award.
“As someone who has devoted much of my career to advancing women in medicine and supporting the growth and development of all faculty, this recognition feels both personal and deeply affirming,” said Arif, who is also a professor and vice chair of the Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences as well as chief of the Division of Abdominal Radiology. “Women and faculty with caregiving responsibility in our field often carry a heavy load — clinical demands, academic expectations, research pressures and family responsibilities — so creating structures that support their success has always been a priority for me.”
Arif has been instrumental in establishing the Spurring Success with Wellness, Innovation, Mentorship and Scholarship as well as other awards that highlight inspirational leaders at the U of A College of Medicine – Tucson.
The Commission on the Status of Women created the Vision Awards in 1999 to honor those who exemplify the vision set out by the Arizona Board of Regents when it created a group assessing the status of women at the three state universities in 1989.
“In many ways, this award feels like a celebration of our progress — and a reminder that there is still more to do,” Arif said. “I’m grateful, inspired and more motivated than ever to continue this work.”
