Kate Gardiner and Denise Moynihan have been named interim co-directors of the University of Arizona Health Sciences BioCommunications office, a campus provider of printing, photography, videography and graphic design services.
Gardiner and Moynihan replace Ricky Bergeron, who retired earlier this year after 25 years with the university, including the last seven as the director of BioCommunications.
“As BioCom moves forward, I hope to work with Kate to expand our services so that we can contribute to the educational, research and outreach missions of the entire university,” Moynihan said. “BioCom has been a valuable resource to the U of A Health Sciences and the U of A campus overall for many years, and we continue to be a strong partner to departments and colleges in advancing their goals. We are ready to grow out of our ‘best kept secret’ status.”

Gardiner added, “Denise and I aim to guide BioCom through this leadership transition while strengthening our collaboration with the U of A Health Sciences. Together, we will continue serving the campus as a one-stop shop for photography, video, graphic design, printing and TV services.”
Moynihan has been with the university for 31 years, including the last 15 with BioCommunications. She earned her master’s degree in accounting from U of A’s Eller College of Management in 2003. Outside of work, she enjoys listening to audiobooks, assisting with animal rescues, cheering on the Wildcats teams, singing at the occasional karaoke night and attending local music events.
Gardiner has been with the university for four and a half years. Before joining the U of A, she built a 21-year career as an editorial, commercial and personal photographer. She graduated from the U of A in 1998 with a bachelor’s degree in media arts and credits the Arizona Daily Wildcat as her first leap into photojournalism.
“My family and I are avid ‘Star Wars’ fans,” Gardiner said. “We have two energetic dogs, and we love living in — and hiking through — the desert.”
All departments across the University of Arizona, especially those in the health sciences, are encouraged to reach out to Gardiner and Moynihan for whatever services they may need. Learn what their office can do for you by clicking the “Services” menu on the BioCommunications website.
