Sara Yee and Mathew Campanella celebrate their matches at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix 2023 Match Day. Yee matched with Creighton University – Arizona and Campanella matched with Alameda Health Systems – Highland Hospital in California.

With envelopes in hand, 68 University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix fourth-year medical students counted down the seconds until 9 a.m. on March 17 when they joined soon-to-be residents across the country finding out where they would spend the next stage of their medical training.

The day is the culmination of four years of study, research and rotations and occurs on the third Friday in March nationwide.

Surrounded by blue and red balloons, paper lanterns and endless confetti falling from above, students, along with family, friends and faculty, celebrated the moment in the Grand Canyon area between the Biomedical Sciences Partnership Building and Health Sciences Education Building on the Phoenix Bioscience Core.

While 32 of the soon-to-be residents will complete at least one year of residency in Arizona, matches were made in 19 different states.
