Message from the UA Senior Vice President for Health Sciences

Beginning Monday, May 6, through Saturday, May 11, the University of Arizona Health Sciences Colleges of Medicine in Tucson and Phoenix, Colleges of Nursing and Pharmacy and Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health will hold convocations; inspirational graduates are available for interviews.

On May 9, 102 students officially will become physicians and earn their Doctor of Medicine degrees.

The American Indian Youth Wellness Camp, a one-week residential camp, integrates American Indian values and culture, while promoting a healthy lifestyle through good nutrition and exercise to American Indian children from tribes across Arizona.

Pain specialists at the University of Arizona and Banner – University Medicine are trying to reduce the use of opioids for patients suffering from chronic non-cancer pain by utilizing alternatives and complementary methods, and a large array of pain intervention procedures.

Jeffrey Frelinger, PhD, has received the highest honor bestowed by the American Association of Immunologists.

Second-year medical student Jacquelyn Hoffman has been awarded the Shirley D. Curson Medical Student Scholarship from the University of Arizona Hillel Foundation.
