Sun is a research scientist in the Department of Neurobiology at Stanford University School of Medicine. He completed his doctorate in 2017 at the University of California, Irvine, where he studied the cell-type specific neural circuit organization and function of the hippocampus. In recognition of his doctoral studies, he was honored with the prestigious Krieg Cortical Kudos Scholar award from the Cajal Club. In 2017, he joined Dr. Lisa Giocomo's lab at Stanford as a postdoc, investigating neural circuit mechanisms of spatial navigation in the hippocampus and subiculum. During his postdoc, Sun's research interest in spatial and contextual coding has expanded to drug-context associations in substance use disorders. His research is currently supported by a K01 grant from the National Institute on Drug Abuse, aiming for a mechanistic understanding of neural circuits encoding drug-context associations and finding novel therapeutics.
