Health Sciences is a Hit with Kids at Family SciFest Event
The University of Arizona Health Sciences brought STEM to life for over 500 families who attended the Children’s Museum Tucson Family SciFest event on a recent Saturday morning. Showcasing a variety of STEM activities, the University of Arizona College of Nursing, R. Ken Coit College of Pharmacy, Arizona Poison and Drug Information Center and the Arizona Simulation Technology and Education Center (ASTEC) engaged with children aged 2 through 10.
Children created pipe cleaner brain cells and spiders and compared candy to medicine to reinforce the importance of never eating anything without adult permission. They tested the effects of sunscreen and interacted with Hal, the animatronic child-size manikin from ASTEC. Each child also received a Connect2STEM backpack filled with STEM activities to do at home to extend their learning experience.
