Dr. Aimee Kaempf Appointed to Board of AAPL Journal
Aimee Kaempf, MD, a clinical associate professor in the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson’s Department of Psychiatry, has been named to the editorial board of the Journal of the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law (AAPL). Her appointment is for a three-year term.

“I enjoy the challenges and complexities that arise when psychiatry interfaces with the legal system,” Dr. Kaempf said. “I am looking forward to furthering knowledge in the field of forensic psychiatry, as well as connecting with others with similar professional interests.”
“Dr. Kaempf is an excellent physician-educator who provides compassionate clinical care to her patients while simultaneously maintaining her commitment to academic medicine,” said Kathy W. Smith, MD, associate dean of graduate medical education and professor of psychiatry at the College of Medicine – Tucson. “Her selection to the editorial board of this prestigious journal will be an impactful venue for Dr. Kaempf to apply her expertise on a national and international level and continue to move the field of forensic psychiatry forward in a meaningful way.”
Dr. Kaempf earned a medical degree from the University of Virginia in 2003 and graduated from the College of Medicine – Tucson’s psychiatry residency program in 2007. She joined the UArizona College of Medicine – Tucson faculty in 2008.
“My interest in forensic psychiatry and women’s mental health started when I was a psychiatry resident at UArizona,” Dr. Kaempf said. “I was lucky to have strong faculty mentorship early in my career, as well as the ongoing support of the Department of Psychiatry.”
The journal’s website states that it is intended to be a forum for the exchange of multidisciplinary ideas that deal with the interfaces of psychiatry and the legal system and the theory and practice of forensic psychiatry. The AAPL was founded in 1969 and has more than 2,000 members.
