Dr. Shakaib Rehman Awarded EACH Fellowship
Shakaib Rehman, MD, CSH, MACP, FACH, FAMIA, interim chair and professor in the Department of Biomedical Informatics in the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix, was awarded a fellowship in the International Association for Communication in Healthcare, also known as EACH.

“It has been an honor to be recognized by an international professional society committed to improving communication in health care,” said Dr. Rehman, who has additional appointments in internal medicine as well as humanism and bioethics. “The fellowship has helped renew my desire to help patients and providers achieve better disease controls as well as for patients to lead healthier and happier lives.”
Dr. Rehman is an expert in health care communication, informatics and hypertension. He has been involved in EACH for more than 20 years in various roles and is the current chair of EACH’s Policy and Practice Committee. He served as conference chair for EACH’s 2007 International Conference on Communication in Health Care (ICCH) and has been appointed conference chair for the 2023 ICCH in October in Puerto Rico. He has also served as session chair and presented at many ICCH workshops and symposiums.
Dr. Rehman is the associate chief of staff for education at the Phoenix VA Health Care System. He joined the College of Medicine – Phoenix and the Phoenix VA Health Care System in 2013. He sees patients in the Academic Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT), which he helped found with the College of Medicine – Phoenix internal medicine residency program. The PACT model provides clinical trainees with learning experience in primary care training sites such as VA medical centers.
“I am committed to improving the care of our patients,” Dr. Rehman said. “Despite our scientific advances and discoveries, our patients are still not getting the patient-centered care they deserve. I have designed many courses to enhance patient-clinician communications through humanism, clinician interpersonal effectiveness and negotiation to achieve desired outcomes.”
EACH provides an academic and practical professional community to those researchers, educators, practitioners and policy makers involved in investigating and improving communication in health care. The purpose of the fellowship is to honor those members who make a substantial contribution toward this goal. Dr. Rehman was awarded the fellowship at the ICCH ceremony in Glasgow, Scotland, in September 2022.
