“Fair Play” is a documentary that makes the invisible care work historically held by women visible, inspiring a more balanced future for all. The University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson’s Arizona Perinatal Psychiatry Access Line is offering this free screening to bring to light the significant challenges mothers face and to host a community discussion.

Saira Kalia, MD, director of APAL said, “The amount of work that new mothers have to endure, because they are often expected to take care of all of the domestic responsibilities, adds to the stress, anxiety and can create other mental illnesses that impact the whole family. This is a fantastic documentary that illuminates the domestic and career challenges facing mothers.

“And, as one of the experts say in the film, for heterosexual couples, this issue is also about gender pressures on men. During the panel discussion, we plan to have a lively conversation with the audience on ways to create more balance in our community’s households," Kalia said.

The post-screening panel discussion includes:

“As part of our commitment to supporting mothers, families will not have to get their own child care," Emerick said. "Child care being another great topic we will dialog about! We are offering free tickets to children with one adult per group of kids to the Tucson Children’s Museum because we know how hard it can be to find both time for ourselves and to get the needed care for our kids. We hope, between offering the screening for free, and tickets to TCM, we can remove any attendance barriers families may usually face.”
