Liya Yin, MD, PhD, to join the College of Medicine – Phoenix as a professor of Internal Medicine

Liya Yin, MD, PhD, will join the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix as a professor of internal medicine and member of the Translational Cardiovascular Research Center.

A renowned scientist, Yin’s research interests include lipid metabolism, endothelial dysfunction in diabetes, regulation of coronary circulation, coronary collateral growth, cardiovascular regeneration, heart failure and diabetic cardiomyopathy. She is a fellow of the American Heart Association and the American Physiological Society – Cardiovascular Section.

Yin joins the college from Northeast Ohio Medical University, or NEOMED, where she is a tenured associate professor in the Department of Integrative Medical Sciences and director of the Heart & Blood Vessel Diseases research focus area. Until last year, she was co-director of the Integrative Medical Science Departmental Seminar Series. 

Yin’s reputation as a strong advocate for scientific collaboration and discovery precedes her. Her research has been funded by the AHA and the National Institutes of Health. She has published more than 69 peer-reviewed articles and serves as a member of the AHA peer-review committees and an ad hoc member of NIH study sections.

Yin is passionate about education and mentoring undergraduate, graduate and medical students. She also serves on the committees of the American Physiological Society, the International Heart Research Society and the Council of Microcirculation Society.

Yin earned both a medical degree and doctoral degrees from Wuhan University School of Medicine in China. She completed postdoctoral training at the University of California San Francisco and joined UCLA as a research faculty member.

Yin will assume her role on July 8, 2024.
