Arizona Simulation Technology & Education Center

In December 2024, ASTEC was reaccredited by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare for the third time since 2011. It is one of only a few simulation centers in the world with accreditation in all areas of health care simulation for the last 15 years. This year, the University of Arizona Health Sciences was strengthened further by incorporating the Interprofessional Clinical and Professional Skills Center as an additional modality representing the human side of simulation education. Together, along with a wide variety of stakeholders from UAHS and Banner, we achieved re-accreditation in the following areas:

  1. Teaching/Education
  2. Assessment
  3. Research
  4. Systems Integration
  5. Fellowship (New)

As part of this process, ASTEC also achieved accreditation in the area of fellowship, highlighting our longstanding collaboration with the Department of Emergency Medicine and the leadership of Vivienne Ng, MD. The accreditation process provides validated recognition of expertise, best practices, and performance improvement among all components of a healthcare simulation operation. Simulation-based education at UAHS continues to lead the way, pushing the boundaries of innovative and impactful experiential learning for students.
