Dr. Wei Zhou Named President-Elect of the Western Vascular Society

Wei Zhou, MD, FACS, chief of the Division of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery in the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson Department of Surgery, was named president-elect of the Western Vascular Society (WVS) for the remainder of 2021 and will become president for 2022-2023.

The Western Vascular Society is one of the largest regional vascular societies and promotes education, research, advocacy and leadership in the art and science of compassionate vascular health in the Western U.S., Canada and the Pacific Rim. Dr. Zhou has been an active member of the WVS for nearly 15 years. She was a member of the Program Committee and chaired the committee in 2018.  

“Starting my surgical training in San Diego and coming back to the Western Region feel like coming home,” Dr. Zhou said. “I am fortunate to have many wonderful friends and mentors in WVS who are leaders in our society and in SVS. WVS is the family. I am truly humbled by this incredible honor and trust bestowed upon me.”

Dr. Zhou is a recognized academic surgeon and an NIH-funded physician investigator. Her research program focuses on clinical outcomes of vascular interventions and the mechanistic investigation of atherosclerotic disease. She is the principle investigator for more than 30 clinical trials. In addition, Dr. Zhou has authored or co-authored more 150 peer-reviewed articles and nearly 30 book chapters, and has been an invited speaker for numerous national and international meetings.
