College of Medicine — Tucson
The four funding opportunities are:
- The COM – Tucson Graduate Service Fellowship
- The COM – Tucson Graduate Peer Mentoring Fellowship
- The COM – Tucson Graduate Research Fellowship
- The COM – Tucson Graduate Teaching Fellowship
Eligibility requirements
- A PhD or master’s level graduate trainee.
- Have a COM – Tucson faculty member be their primary mentor.
- Enrolled as a graduate trainee through April 30, 2024.
- The nominee must have completed at least one year of graduate study at the university by the time of nomination.
The eligibility requirements and application process are the same for all funding opportunities.
Nominations can come from faculty, fellow trainees and/or staff. Who nominates the individual will have no bearing of the success of the application. Nominators must include a letter (maximum two pages) that describes the nominee’s merits for the award. Letters can be signed by multiple individuals and individuals can receive multiple nominations. Self-nominations will be accepted as well.
Each recipient will receive $3,000. The submission due date is April 12, 2024 and individuals will be notified by April 29, 2024. See individual award details below.
College of Medicine — Tucson Graduate Service Fellowship
The COM – Tucson Graduate Service Fellowship recognizes graduate students who have demonstrated excellence in service, outreach and engagement with their academic, professional or local communities. The nomination letter should highlight the nominee’s engagement in service, significant contributions and/or demonstrated leadership that has elevated their academic, professional or local scientific communities through their service, outreach or engagement activities.
College of Medicine — Tucson Graduate Peer Mentoring Fellowship
The COM – Tucson Graduate Peer Mentoring Fellowship recognizes graduate students who have excelled in providing mentorship, guidance and support to their fellow graduate students at the University of Arizona. The nomination letter should highlight how the nominee has used their academic and professional skills to help their peers succeed in their graduate education and career development.
College of Medicine — Tucson Graduate Teaching Fellowship
The COM – Tucson Graduate Teaching Fellowship recognizes graduate students who have demonstrated outstanding teaching, advising or content creation as part of a course. The nomination letter should highlight the graduate trainee’s classroom aptitude in helping the enrolled participants, progress of the participants as a function of the nominee, assistance to the course director and/or innovative contributions to the class.
College of Medicine — Tucson Graduate Research Fellowship
The COM – Tucson Graduate Research Fellowship recognizes graduate students who have demonstrated exceptional research aptitude and contributions to their respective field. The nomination letter should contextualize the impact of the nominee’s research on their respective field, and how their contribution was novel or innovative. This fellowship is not just for who has the most or highest-impact papers, but for who has made sustained contributions from the beginning of their graduate career to this current point.
