Life & Work Connections

Flu season is approaching, and now is a good time to schedule your annual influenza vaccine.

When you get your seasonal flu vaccine, you help protect yourself, your family and your community from the flu. This is especially important for those who may be at high risk, including infants under 2 years old, people over 65 years old, those who are pregnant and those with a health condition.

Steps for University employees to get a flu shot

  1. Locate your Alternate Employee ID in the University Benefits tile in UAccess, at the top of the Benefits Summary tab. This number is not the same as your employee ID, and confirms that you are eligible for benefits as a State of Arizona employee.
  2. Download and fill out the Flu Shot Consent Form. Add your Alternate Employee ID number to the form in the appropriate box under "State Employee Information."
  3. Make an appointment to get your flu shot at a location convenient to you (listed below).

Note: your consent form is only needed for Healthwaves and ADOA clinics.

University worksite clinics: Tucson and Phoenix campuses

Dates and times are listed for the following university locations (requires creating a Healthwaves account and logging in):

  • Register for Tucson: McKale Memorial Center, Thomas W. Keating Bioresearch Building (BIO5) and Cancer Center – North Campus.
  • Register for Phoenix: The Phoenix Biomedical Campus (Health Sciences Education Building) and Maricopa County Cooperative Extension.

Statewide options

  • State and public clinics: Visit the Flu Shot Clinics page for state and public clinic options. You will need your Flu Shot Consent Form (with Alternate Employee ID added).
  • Primary care physician: Because flu vaccines are considered preventive care, most insurance carriers cover the full cost.
  • Local pharmacy
    • Double check that the pharmacist bills your medical insurance, not your MedImpact pharmacy coverage.
    • Search participating UnitedHealthcare pharmacies.
    • Search participating Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona pharmacies by logging in to azblue.com, selecting "Find a Doctor," choosing "Places by Type," and typing "pharmacy" in the search bar.

Visit the Center for Disease Control and Prevention website for updated guidance regarding flu shots and COVID-19 vaccines/boosters, and how to prevent seasonal flu.
