Health professionals interested in transforming primary care and health professions education in Arizona are invited to attend “Teaching Health Center: Is it the Right Fit for Your Organization?” hosted by the University of Arizona Center for Rural Health. The conference will take place Friday and Saturday, Oct. 8-9, in Flagstaff, Arizona, and virtually on Zoom.

Conference speakers include experts who have been involved in implementing Teaching Health Center Graduate Medical Education Programs in Arizona. Teaching Health Center Graduate Medical Education programs support the training of medical residents in new or expanded primary care residency training programs in community-based ambulatory patient care centers. The program is designed to prepare residents to provide quality care in rural and underserved communities and develop competencies to serve diverse populations and communities.

The conference is designed for health professionals working in community health centers, critical access hospitals, rural health clinics and Indian Health Service tribal health centers. Attendees will gain valuable insights on requirements and other important considerations when establishing and operating primary care, dental or behavioral health residency programs. The conference will also provide attendees an opportunity to network and ask questions.

Ensuring Americans have access to a primary care physician remains one of the foremost challenges in United States. Improving the health and wellness of Arizona’s rural and underserved populations is a core mission of the Center for Rural Health, which is housed in the UArizona Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health, part of UArizona Health Sciences.
