TUCSON (May 1, 2019) – Banner Alzheimer’s Institute, an international leader in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, will soon begin construction on a new, multidisciplinary memory and research center in Tucson in collaboration with the University of Arizona clinicians and researchers. The new center will offer a comprehensive range of services for affected patients and families, conduct groundbreaking treatment and prevention studies, and expand the UA’s research portfolio in the study of these conditions.

The new, 10,000-square-foot facility will be located at the southeastern corner of North Hacienda Road and East River Road in Tucson and will be conveniently located to serve the comprehensive needs of area residents and collaborate closely with community partners.

“We are excited to work so closely with our University of Arizona colleagues in providing the kind of memory care that all affected patients and families deserve, and to advance the fight to against Alzheimer’s disease in Tucson and Southern Arizona,” said Eric M. Reiman, MD, Banner Alzheimer’s Institute executive director and Banner Research CEO.

“Banner Alzheimer’s Institute brings a unique model of clinical care, family support and research to our community. The development of this model of care associated with ground breaking research will be a unique asset in Southern Arizona,” said David M. Labiner, MD, The University of Arizona Department of Neurology professor and chair.

The memory center, which will be named the Toole Family Memory Center, is expected to open in the spring of 2020.  It will provide outpatient services related to the evaluation, diagnosis and medical management of both cognitive and non-cognitive behavior problems; a clinical trials program, where patients can learn about and gain access to promising investigational treatments and prevention research; a family and community services program to help address commonly unmet non-medical needs of family care providers; and offer various community education programs.

Banner Alzheimer’s Institute in Tucson is made possible through generous philanthropic support to the Banner Alzheimer’s Foundation. The programs and services created to support those with memory impairment at Banner’s memory centers throughout the state are also funded by the foundation and its donors.
