David Elmer
David Elmer is the associate vice president for finance and administration at the University of Arizona Health Sciences.
Mr. Elmer serves as chief financial officer for the UArizona Health Sciences, including the UArizona Colleges of Medicine (Tucson and Phoenix), Nursing, Pharmacy, and the Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health.
He works closely with the deans of the five health sciences colleges, as well as the leadership of Health Sciences centers, institutes and Banner Health, to develop strategies that promote robust financial performance and successful achievement of shared operational goals.
Mr. Elmer brings more than 25 years of leadership experience, providing strategic guidance and financial and operational management in multi-specialty academic medical systems. He has demonstrated success in team-based approaches to complex business, financial and operational issues.
In his position at the College of Medicine – Tucson, he was responsible for overseeing the college’s business operations and administration of resources, including finance and budgeting, information technology and space and facilities planning. He joined the college in 2009 as clinical practice administrator for the Department of Family and Community Medicine, managing the department’s academic, research and clinical components.
Prior to joining the college, Mr. Elmer was with Emory University, where he was clinical department administrator for the School of Medicine’s Department of Family and Preventive Medicine. He also served as senior business manager for Emory Healthcare, Section of Cardiology, and the Emory Heart Center, and business manager for cardiology at Emory Crawford Long Hospital.
