Pharmacy’s Wei Wang inducted into AIMBE College of Fellows
Wei Wang, PhD, a professor of pharmacology and toxicology at the University of Arizona R. Ken Coit College of Pharmacy, was inducted into the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering College of Fellows class of 2025.

Wang was nominated and elected by his peers and members of the College of Fellows for his outstanding contributions to engineering and medical research, practice and education. According to its website, election to the AIMBE College of Fellows is among the highest professional distinctions accorded to medical and biological engineers, comprised of the top 2% of engineers in these fields.
“Being inducted into the AIMBE College of Fellows signifies a prestigious recognition of my contributions in new synthetic technology, therapy and imaging tools for neurodegenerative, cancer and infectious diseases,” said Wang. “It acknowledges impactful work in research, practice, or education and highlights advancements that benefit society.”
Wang, who joined the Coit College of Pharmacy seven years ago, said his team’s research focuses on developing new drugs and therapies for combating cancer and age-related diseases. Specifically, they are developing new therapeutics called, “targeted protein degraders” to treat these diseases.
“Congratulations to Dr. Wang on his induction into the College of Fellows of the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering,” said Rick Schnellmann, PhD, former dean of the Coit College of Pharmacy. “This prestigious recognition reflects his exceptional commitment to academic excellence and his significant contributions to translational research, which continue to advance the mission of our college.”
Wang said that he is motivated by the desire to improve human health and well-being through the development of new health products and training the next generation of biomedical researchers, scientists and pharmacists.
“The Coit College of Pharmacy and U of A Health Sciences have provided invaluable support in my career through opportunities for professional development, networking, and access to resources that facilitate research and enhance collaboration for my interdisciplinary research,” said Wang.
According to its website, AIMBE’s mission is to recognize excellence, advance public understanding and accelerate medial and biological innovation. AIMBE Fellows include four Nobel Prize laureates and 27 Presidential Medal of Science and/or Technology and Innovation awardees.
