Hundreds honor Mel Zuckerman at celebration of life

Iman Hakim, MBBCh, PhD, MPH, dean of the University of Arizona Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health, spoke to the more than 380 people attending the celebration of life for Mel Zuckerman, a founding funder of the Zuckerman College of Public Health.

More than 380 people attended the memorial event for Mel Zuckerman, a philanthropist and founding founder of the University of Arizona Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health on Monday, April 17 in the Health Sciences Innovation Building forum.

Mel and Enid Zuckerman founded the Zuckerman Family Foundation, which has committed more than $20 million to the UArizona Foundation, primarily to benefit the Zuckerman College of Public Health.

“Mel was not only a generous supporter of our college and university, but also a true friend and mentor to so many of us here,” said Iman Hakim, MBBCh, PhD, MPH, dean of the Zuckerman College of Public Health. “His unwavering dedication to the health and wellness of our community has been truly remarkable, and we are forever grateful for his support in making the College and the University a leader in public health and beyond.”

Zuckerman passed away in March at the age of 94. A video of the event is available on YouTube.
