Valerie Schaibley, PhD

Schaibley earned a doctorate in human genetics from the University of Michigan, studying patterns of spontaneous mutation in the human genome. Prior to joining the U of A, she worked in a precision medicine start-up company for several years in a variety of roles from genetic testing product development to scientific communication strategies. Currently, Schaibley is the associate and research director for the U of A Genetic Counseling Graduate Program in the College of Health Sciences. She is also an assistant professor in the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine. At the UAGCGP, she works with program leadership to oversee program operations, teach graduate-level courses and manage and mentor student research. Her current research focuses on clinical genetics education and access to clinical genetics services for patients. Schaibley is the Genetic Counseling Graduate Program associate director and research director; assistant professor, educator scholar track, Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine at the University of Arizona.
