Symonds is an assistant professor of medicine and pediatrics at the University of Arizona, a clinical geneticist with Banner University Medical Center Tucson and the medical director for the PANDA Core for Genomics Research at the U of A.
Symonds first completed his internal medicine residency at New York College of Medicine and then continued his fellowship trainings in both clinical genetics and laboratory genetics and genomics at the Johns Hopkins University and National Institutes of Health consortium program in Bethesda, MD. In his clinical role, Symonds evaluates and manages patients with suspected or established genetic diseases. As medical director for the CLIA and CAP-certified PANDA Core for Genomics Research, Symonds performs analysis and interpretation of genetic tests including exome and genome sequencing. His research interests include using genome-first approaches to characterize disease prevalence, penetrance and expressivity. Symonds is a member of the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics Professional Practice and Guidelines committee and works on developing practice guidelines directed to aid clinicians in the management of cancer predisposition syndromes.
