University of Arizona Arthritis Center
When
Join the University of Arizona Arthritis Center as the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine's Dr. Ann Marie Chiasson explores the impact of pain on the brain. She will provide an overview of pain transmission and pain circuitry, as well as how chronic pain can alter brain structure and function. Dr. Chiasson will highlight physical changes that can be observed through brain imaging, such as MRI, in individuals living with chronic pain. She will also discuss the overlap and connections between chronic pain and a range of other health conditions, and she will examine the important relationship between chronic pain and mental health, sharing research that underscores this critical link.
Drawing on her perspective as an integrative medicine physician, Dr. Chiasson will offer a broad overview of mind-body medicine, which focuses on the interactions among the brain, mind, body and behavior, and how emotional, mental, social and behavioral factors directly influence health. She will introduce mind-body practices such as hypnosis, guided imagery, mindfulness, biofeedback and meditation, and she will review the evidence supporting their role in chronic pain management.
