Supporting Family Caregivers in STEMM: A Call to Action

The College of Medicine – Tucson will host a visit from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine (NASEM) on Wednesday, Oct. 15, to promote their new report, Supporting Family Caregivers in STEMM: A Call to Action.

The research community is invited to attend this event.

NASEM representatives:

  • Katie Wullert, PhD – program officer, Committee on Women in Science, Engineering, and Medicine (study director for the 2024 report).
  • Maria (Mia) Ong, PhD – senior research scientist, TERC; committee member for the 2024 report.

Agenda Highlights:

  • 1:15 – 2 p.m.: Discussion with COM-T chairs and center directors
  • 2:00 – 2:30 p.m.: Learning and wellness session featuring students, postdocs, residents, fellows and U of A Life & Work Connections
  • 2:30 – 3:15 p.m.: Early career and mentoring session featuring Doris Duke grant recipients, early career and career development awardees (CDA/K12) and mentors
  • 3:15–3:30 p.m.: Break
  • 3:30–5 p.m.: Presentations and report discussion

This visit represents an important opportunity to engage with national leaders on issues impacting family caregivers in the sciences, engineering, medicine and mathematics (STEMM) fields. We encourage faculty and staff members, graduate students and trainees to attend and participate in this timely discussion.
