Health Sciences integration: BioCommunications transition

Monday

U of A Health Sciences Office of Communications

As the university completes the integration of health sciences activities into university operations, BioCommunications will discontinue its fee-for-service structure effective Aug. 7. This follows the June 9 organizational announcement from Provost Patricia Prelock and Senior Vice President Tomás Díaz de la Rubia. A detailed communication was shared Monday with deans and college leadership.

Some services are already available elsewhere within the university; others can be supported by central units or outsourced to university-approved suppliers.

Photography and videography

University Marketing and Communications will capture signature university events such as white coat ceremonies and Match Day, and it is expanding coverage of health sciences research, student experiences and community impact. For other events, video and photography services may be outsourced to external suppliers, including for faculty and staff headshots. University Marketing and Communications is negotiating rates with approved suppliers and will provide referrals by late August. In the meantime, units may contact Marketing and Communications for supplier recommendations.

Graphic design, photocopy and printing

The Arizona Student Union's Fast Copy provides graphic design, photocopy and printing services to colleges and units, including poster production, event collaterals and other marketing materials. Fast Copy accepts online project submissions and delivers across campus. BioCommunications equipment will be transferred to Fast Copy to increase production capacity.

Educational and classroom support at HSIB

The university will continue to provide streaming support, classroom recording, video conferencing and podcasting services for departments and units at the Health Sciences Innovation Building. Support resources will be aligned under University Information Technology Services before the start of the fall semester.

Physical and digital archive management

University Marketing and Communications and University Libraries will manage physical and digital archives, with most assets going to the libraries. University Marketing and Communications will retain access to legacy digital project files, which will be available to campus marketers and communicators upon request.
