Benjamin R. Lee, MD, MBA, a professor and the George W. Drach Endowed Chair of the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson Department of Urology, was inducted as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow.

Lee traveled to Scotland in October for the formal induction ceremony. He said a highlight of the trip was the chance to meet physicians from across the globe and to hear about their journeys to the Royal College. Lee said he was deeply honored to join one of the world’s oldest and most respected medical institutions.

“To be part of a lineage that includes visionary figures such as Dr. David Livingstone, whose humanitarian and medical contributions shaped global health, and Dr. Joseph Lister, the father of antiseptic surgery, is profoundly humbling,” Lee said. “Their pioneering spirit continues to inspire generations of physicians and surgeons, and it is an extraordinary privilege to contribute in even a small way to this enduring heritage of service, innovation and professional integrity.”

Lee, who is also a member of the U of A Comprehensive Cancer Center, joined the U of A in 2016. Three years later, he founded the Department of Urology, was inaugural chair of the Department of Urology, and was named the Dr. George W. Drach Endowed Chair in 2020.

Following his latest honor, Lee said he’s most excited about the opportunities for international collaboration.

“The Royal College’s global reach provides a remarkable platform to foster professional relationships, share advances in surgical education and research and learn from colleagues around the world,” he said. “I look forward to building bridges across borders — strengthening ties between institutions, supporting the next generation of surgeons and promoting the highest standards of patient care through shared knowledge and mutual respect.”
