Applications are now open for the fall 2025 Doctor of Physical Therapy program, a new program at the University of Arizona Health Sciences in the College of Health Sciences. Students considering a career in physical therapy should be encouraged to apply at https://www.apta.org/cas/ptcas.

Program highlights

In an effort to address critical health care needs in our communities, this fully face-to-face DPT program focuses on meeting the demand for highly skilled generalist physical therapists. The three-year, full-time curriculum emphasizes communication, therapeutic alliance, clinical reasoning, interprofessional skills and community service. Key features include:

  • Service learning: Engaging with and supporting underserved populations.
  • Integrated curriculum: Connecting foundational knowledge with clinical applications.
  • Clinical experiences: Hands-on practice following related didactic content, preparing students for the national board exam and professional practice.

Informing students about this opportunity and encouraging those interested in physical therapy to apply can help address the significant shortage of physical therapists in Tucson and Southern Arizona.

Application requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Prerequisites courses in anatomy and physiology, biology, chemistry, physics, statistics or advanced math, and psychology.
  • A minimum of 20 observation, volunteer or service-learning hours.
  • A personal statement.
  • Two letters of recommendation.
