Premed students can apply now for 2026 Flinn Summer Research Internships
College of Medicine - Phoenix
Applications are being accepted through Jan. 18 for the 2026 Flinn Summer Research Internships hosted by the Translational Research Office at the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Phoenix.
This internship is an immersive, 10-week research opportunity for premed students looking to gain scientific investigation skills, build connections with the medical research community and explore the MD/PhD pathway. Since 2023, 31 interns have completed the program and have gone on to publish manuscripts, present at national conferences, win research awards, join prestigious labs across the country and earn admission to medical school. You can read about the 2024 and 2025 cohorts for more information.
Each intern is matched with a research faculty mentor to conduct a guided research project on a topic of the intern's choosing. There are both dry and wet lab opportunities. At the end of the summer, interns present their findings to the college at a formal symposium. Interns engage with renowned investigators, multidisciplinary lab teams, college leaders, current MD and MD/PhD students, and former interns through weekly lunch-and-learn discussions. Additionally, interns meet with the admissions team for crash courses on the medical school application process and have the opportunity to participate in mock interviews.
The goal of the program is for interns to build their technical research skills, prepare for medical school and apply research practices to their academic and professional careers. To learn more, visit the program's website.
The Flinn Summer Research Internships are open to undergraduate students or recent graduates. As this is a paid internship, university policy requires that applicants be U.S. citizens or permanent residents. The application will require a completed questionnaire, a personal statement, academic transcripts and a letter of recommendation. The internship will run from the first week of June through the first week of August.
