Robert W. Bina, MD, named interim chair of Department of Neurosurgery – Phoenix
Robert W. Bina, MD, will serve as interim chair of the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix and Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix.
Bina is both an academician and leader within the department. He is the director of the Functional Restoration and Epilepsy Surgery program at Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix and serves as an assistant professor of Neurosurgery and Translational Neurosciences at the U of A College of Medicine – Phoenix.
Bina is an alumnus of the College of Medicine – Phoenix, graduating in 2013. He completed his neurosurgical residency at the College of Medicine – Tucson. Following residency, Bina completed a six-month enfolded restorative and epilepsy surgery fellowship at Swedish Cherry Hill Hospital in Seattle, Washington, as well as a fellowship in functional and epilepsy surgery at the University of Louisville.
Bina is actively engaged in research into the electrochemical mechanisms of cognitive psychology, serves as the associate program director of the Neurosurgery Residency, and educates students as co-director of the Neurosciences Block.
Bina replaces Peter Nakaji, MD, as the chair for the department. We thank Dr. Nakaji for all he has accomplished as chair. However, he will remain engaged in training the next generation of neurosurgeons as program director for the Neurosurgery Residency program.
A national search for a permanent chair of the department will commence in March.
