Sept. 13, 2024

Southwest Environmental Health Sciences Center

The Southwest Environmental Health Sciences Center Pilot Program facilitates innovative research in environmental health sciences and provides initial funding for investigators to establish new lines of research. Pilot funding supports short-term research projects that explore the feasibility of new research areas and acquire preliminary data necessary to pursue extramural funding. The program fosters opportunities for research to advance the strategic vision and goals of the NIEHS as a whole and our center specifically.

Submission deadline: Friday, Nov. 1, 2024

The Program is organized to accomplish the following aims:

  • Provide initial funding to early-career investigators to establish environmental health sciences-related research.
  • Support projects that address environmental justice issues in our desert Southwest region.
  • Encourage established investigators from other areas to develop environmental health sciences research themes.
  • Enable the pursuit of innovative directions in environmental health sciences research.

To learn more about what we are looking for in a pilot project and what resources are available to pilot applicants, we strongly encourage potential applicants to reach out to the Pilot Program Director Dr. Xinxin Ding in advance of the preliminary application.
