Meet the Public Health ‘Originals’

These are the “MEZCOPH Originals,” the faculty and staff who have been working at the Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health since its inception in 2000.
They have taught or supported the academic journeys of a generation of public health students, contributed research to develop our knowledge of public health practices, and shaped the college’s community outreach efforts. Jeff Burgess, MD, MPH, is associate dean for research and a professor in the Community, Environment and Policy Department.
Zhao Chen, PhD, MPH, is chair of the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics and is a distinguished professor.
Jill de Zapien retired as program director in the Health Promotion Sciences Department.
Iman Hakim, MD, PhD, MPH, is the college’s dean and a professor.
Sheila Hill Parker, MS, MPH, DrPH, is a lecturer in the Health Promotion Sciences Department.
Htay Hla is director of the Office of Information Technology.
Robin Harris, PhD, MPH, is a professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics.
Mary Koss, PhD, is a Regents Professor in the Health Promotion Sciences Department.
Mary Kay O’Rourke, PhD, is a professor emeritus in the Community, Environment & Policy Department.
Denise Roe, DrPH, is director of Biometry and a professor of biostatistics in the Epidemiology and Biostatistics Department.
Duane Sherrill, PhD, retired as associate dean of research and professor of Epidemiology and Biostatistics.
Douglas Taren, PhD, is director of the Western Region Public Health Training Center and a professor.

Linda Tumellie retired as assistant dean of financial affairs and physical resources.
