Presenter Details

Laura Rupprecht, PhD
Postdoctoral Fellow, The Laboratory of Gut-Brain Neurobiology
Department of Medicine, Duke University

Rupprecht received her PhD in neuroscience from the University of Pittsburgh under the mentorship of Alan Sved. Her research focuses on the molecular and behavioral mechanisms underlying feeding and addiction behavior. In her postdoctoral work with Diego Bohórquez at Duke University, she defined a specific intestine circuit that drives the preference for sugar. To uncover these circuits, she has developed novel optogenetic tools for use inside the gut. Her current work is uncovering how specific sensory cells in the intestine drive a feeling of pleasure, with implications for diseases such as obesity and addiction.
