One Health Conference Presentation Award

Travel award description: The University of Arizona's One Health Research Initiative is seeking applications for Conference Presentation Awards to cover expenses associated with presenting talks or posters at regional or national conferences (or symposia therein) with a One Health focus. These awards can be used for conference registration fees, lodging, airfare, car rental, mileage, taxis/rideshares, trains, buses, meals, editing/translation services, printing costs, and/or other justified expenses. Funds cannot be used for international travel.

Award amount: Total allowable amount per award is $2000.

Eligibility: Applicants must be faculty, staff, or students (both undergraduate and graduate) at the University of Arizona. They must have already received acceptance of their abstract for presentation and must be the person who will be presenting at the conference. Presentations must have a One Health focus at the intersection of environmental health, human health, and animal health. Conferences can be virtual or in person.

Required materials:

• Name and website for conference
• A rationale statement (no more than one page) from the applicant stating how 1) the accepted presentation and 2) the conference (or symposium within the conference) exemplify the One Health mission, and 3) how the conference will benefit the applicant.
• Accepted abstract written by the candidate, along with author list and order, as accepted
• Evidence of abstract acceptance (e.g., pdf of acceptance email, online or print program in advance of the conference)
• Candidate’s condensed CV or resume (e.g., NIH or NSF formatted biosketch)
• Detailed budget not exceeding $2000:
  • Provide justifications for all items.
  • For virtual conferences, only conference registration fees and editing/translation services are allowable.
  • Refer to University of Arizona Financial Policies as these will set the ceilings for allowable expenses.

Deadline and Conditions: Rolling throughout the fiscal year (both academic year and summer). Applications will be reviewed at monthly meetings of the One Health Advisory Committee. Awardees will be notified promptly. Retroactive awards (awards for conferences already attended) are not possible. However, expenses incurred prior to applying for or receiving the award (e.g., registration fees, plane tickets, etc.) are eligible for reimbursement.

Review Process: The One Health Advisory Committee will review the applications. The awardees will be selected based on quality of the abstract as well as the fit of the abstract and conference/symposium within the One Health mission. In accordance with the University of Arizona’s commitment to inclusive excellence, applicants from diverse backgrounds, especially individuals historically underrepresented in STEM fields, are encouraged to apply for these travel funds.
