Event Description

Feed your gut, feed your brain and, ultimately feed your mood. Join us with Cindy Davis, MPH, RDN, for this 30-minute presentation to find out how what you eat and do supports your disposition.

Did you know that your brain is the largest consumer of energy? Our brain is always on and always working, so we must feed it properly. When you focus on premium fuel — high-quality foods with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants — the brain functions better. No wonder this affects our mood. In the last few years, researchers have begun focusing on the gut-brain connection. We will cover the types of foods and physical activities that help create a better mood, fight depression and make us feel better.

Presenter Details

Cindy Davis, MPH, RDN, holds a bachelor's degree in nutrition and dietetics and a master's degree in public health, both from the University of Arizona, with a focus on health behavior and health promotion. She has more than 20 years of experience in nutrition, including 10-plus years as a community dietitian for Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, where she implemented several nutrition fitness programs. She has also worked in both a long-term care facility and a hospital. Cindy is a certified question, persuade, refer suicide prevention gatekeeper instructor through the QPR Institute.

She is a lecturer in the Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health, where she shares her excitement for nutrition with students by teaching Public Health Nutrition. In the past, Cindy served on the board for the Weight Management Dietary Practice Group Annual Symposium for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. She is a member of the House of Delegates for the Public Health Community Nutrition Dietetics Practice Group in the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Life balance is not only her profession, but she also practices balance by embracing and focusing on her personal passions of walking, kumihimo (the art of Japanese braiding), reading and playing Sudoku. Cindy loves walking with her husband, Jim, and their dog, Angus. She never misses a book club meeting even if she didn’t care for the book because the idea is to stretch herself and be flexible.

She loves to spend time with family and looks forward to vacations when she gets to spend time with family in Georgia and holidays with family in Tucson.
