One Health Workshops

Funding Support for Interdisciplinary Workshops under the One Health Initiative

The One Health Initiative is excited to announce a unique funding opportunity aimed at fostering collaborative, interdisciplinary research at the intersection of human, animal and environmental health. Funding is available to bring together investigators from diverse fields to participate in workshops that will catalyze the development of high-impact research proposals for external sponsorship. We anticipate that these workshops will lead to impactful research proposals that address complex global health challenges.

Funding Details: Up to $5,000 in financial support per workshop is available for proposals that align with the objectives of the One Health Initiative. These workshops should emphasize the integration of multiple disciplines and perspectives to address complex challenges at the intersection of human, animal, and environmental health. Funding can be used for facility space, food, transportation, materials, but not for alcohol (UA policy).

Eligibility: Open to teams of UA investigators with a focus on interdisciplinary research aligned with the One Health Initiative.

Workshops Objectives: The primary goal of these workshops is to facilitate long-term planning and collaboration leading to external funding. By providing a platform for investigators to exchange ideas, share expertise, and identify synergies, these workshops will empower teams to create well-defined research proposals that have the potential to make a substantial impact on One Health-related issues.

Expected Outcomes: Workshops funded through this program should aim to achieve the following outcomes:

  1. Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Foster productive interactions among researchers from different fields to promote innovative approaches to One Health challenges.
  2. Research Proposal Development: Preparation of high-quality research proposals that align with the goals of the One Health Initiative, positioning investigators for successful external sponsorship.
  3. Network Building: Establish lasting connections among investigators, enabling ongoing collaboration beyond the workshop itself.

Application Process: Interested parties are invited to submit workshop proposals (500-word max) that outline the following:

  1. Workshop Theme and Objectives/Application Details: Clearly articulate the focus of the workshop and how it aligns with One Health. Outline the tangible outcomes expected from the workshop, such as preliminary research concepts and a roadmap for proposal development.
  2. Participant Diversity: Describe how the workshop will attract an interdisciplinary group of investigators, fostering intellectual exchange.
  3. Agenda and Activities: Provide a tentative schedule of activities, including sessions for brainstorming, collaborative work, and proposal development.
  4. Expected Deliverables: Within one month of the workshop, an abstract or aims page of a research proposal should be submitted to grm1@arizona.edu, as well as the URL for the RFA when available. Within one year of the workshop, a proposal should be under review.

Rolling Submission Deadline: Proposals will be considered at the monthly meetings of the One Health Advisory Committee. Proposals should be submitted to grm1@arizona.edu.
