The Arizona Department of Health Services has reported that three cases of the so-called U.K. COVID-19 variant, B.1.1.7, has been confirmed in three test samples from the state. Dr. Elizabeth Connick, Professor of Medicine and Chief of Infectious Diseases at the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Tucson said some data suggests that the UK strain may be even more virulent, which means it can make people sicker and cause more death. This has not been fully proven, but Dr. Connick said it should still act as a warning to Arizonans.

Fixing sleep problems can also end up helping with mental health, said Michael Grandner, a psychiatry professor at the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Tucson and director of its Sleep and Health Research Program. “Sometimes stress is hard to manage, but sleep is actually something that could be potentially fixable.”

The United States is in a race against time to vaccinate as many people as possible before other potentially more worrisome variants of the coronavirus emerge, according to experts. "The reason we're doing this phased approach is because there is limited supply," said Deepta Bhattacharya, an associate professor of immunobiology at the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Tucson. "By and large, if you can fix the supply issues, you can vaccinate as many people as fast as possible."

Elderberries come from a shrub or small tree known as Sambucus nigra that’s native to Europe, Africa and Asia. On its own, the tree is known to be highly toxic — which is why preparing and heating the right parts of the plant is essential, and often left to experts. The syrup isn't solely an extract all on its own, explains Lise Alschuler, ND, a clinical medicine professor at the University of Arizona's Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine. “Traditionally, elderberry has been combined with other berries and consumed as a beverage, either tea, juice or wine,” Dr. Alschuler explains.
