Roberta Diaz Brinton, PhD, inaugural director of the Center for Innovation in Brain Science at the University of Arizona Health Sciences, has been awarded a $1.8 million National Institutes of Health training program grant to develop a cross-disciplinary and translationally oriented workforce to discover new drugs for Alzheimer’s and other neurodegenerative diseases and shepherd them through the drug-development pipeline.

Khadijah Breathett, MD, MS, a cardiologist at the University of Arizona Sarver Heart Center who is a passionate advocate for health equity and conducts research on bias in health care, was selected as one of the National Minority Quality Forum’s “40 Under 40 Leaders in Minority Health” for 2019.

Forty percent of the UA College of Medicine – Tucson Class of 2019 will remain in Arizona to practice medicine and pursue their residency training. More than one-third of the class will pursue primary care — a physician specialty that is critically low in Arizona and the nation.
